Winter swimming…

Hi all,

Triathlon Club of Burlington

So I’ve told you all about Oakville Masters (which is where I’m swimming this winter, as is Joanne and a few other LOST Swimmers), but they have a waiting list… then there is also Burlington Masters (who I trained with for my English Channel in 2006 and Manhattan Island Marathon Swim last year) and they have room still this year and lots of LOST Swimmers… but I also just got an email from Jackie Smalec, who has done some LOST Swimming too, in fact Darren and I trained with her in our pre-season LOST swims at Gulliver’s Lake last May.  Jackie was training for Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, so she does know what she’s talking about!  She trains with TCOB (Tri Club of Burlington) and wanted me to let you all know that if you were looking for some winter swimming they have some spots available, here are the details:

– Angela Couglan Pool in Burlington (Upper Middle and Guelph Line)

– Jan 2 – Feb 28th, $180, plus HST (pro-rated now, I assume)

– Feb 28 – Apr 30th, $180, plus HST

– Both sessions, $325, plus HST

– Sundays, 8:30 – 10:00 (they are coached sessions, by Greg Pace, I believe)

– contact Jackie if you want to sign up or have any questions… [email protected]

Cheers,

Rob

I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!
