He made it!!!  Madhu swam across Lake Ontario!!!

Madhu made it!!!

He swam 41.2 km… from Port Dalhousie to Coronation Park in Oakville… in 24 hours and 26 minutes… finishing at 9:35 pm on July 29, 2012!  wow.  That puts him in a very small and elite group of marathon swimmers in the world who have swum for over 24 hours.  Truly amazing.

He is now the second person to swim the LOST Route from Port Dalhousie to Oakville, after Melanie Price pioneered the route last year!

A happy swimmer… and a very happy crowd too!

There was a huge crowd watching him finish, just as the sun went down.  He was in ridiculously good shape after finishing… I chatted with him and he was fine… Doctor John checked him out and he was fine physically too… although he might be a little tired tomorrow… and sporting about the funniest goggle and cap tan you ever saw! 😉

One happy family too!!!

There will be more stories coming out over the next few days I’m sure… and I’m sure he’ll be down to say hi to everyone next weekend at LOST… but in the meantime, the important part is… he’s safe and sound… and has completed the 63rd crossing of Lake Ontario in history… and became the just the 50th person to have ever swum across Lake O!

Congrats, Champ!

Lotsa love and rest from all the LOSTies!

Cheers,

Rob

Next articleSaturday, July 28 LOST Swim… a bit bouncy out there!
I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!
