An awesome kick off swim!!! And the answer to the million dollar question was… 62F / 16C!!! So it wasn’t the 70F that it was on Tuesday… but it wasn’t the 52F that it was on Wednesday either. A very comfortable swimming temp in a wetsuit, (a very comfortable without… if you’ve trained for it!) pretty much ideal, probably between 60F – 65F is ideal, once you start getting up to 70F, you’ll notice that you are getting pretty warm, especially if you are going for any distance.
The next great thing was that we had 14 swimmers out! (plus Madhu, who couldn’t swim but couldn’t miss the big kick off either and came down to send us off!) A big improvement from the 8 that we had to kick off the season last year… thanks for coming everyone! As much as it is great to see all the old faces, like Darren, Eileen, Melanie, Bill, Hugh (even if he was late!) and Mike… it was great to see people that I hadn’t seen since last year like Carl and Victor… and even better to see the several new faces, like Claudia, Jeremy, Mathew! (sorry, I know that doesn’t add up to 14… so I’m making this disclaimer right at the start of the season… I’m not great at remembering names, but I’m trying… I’ve got about the same short term memory as Drew Barrymore did in the movie “50 First Dates”).

We did about 20 minutes out and 20 minutes back, except Claudia who went a bit shorter and then got out and did a nice run, but we’ll cut her some slack as she is on a bit more strict routine as she is training for World Short Course Triathlon Championships, if I heard correctly! Not too shabby!
We wound it all up with the usual cuppa coffee up at Second Cup… a good time was had by all! Hope to see you all out next week!
Cheers,
Rob
