… I’m starting to take these LOST World Records for granted… we’ve broken them so many times this year! So guess how many people we had out for our LOST Swim this morning… the previous record was 37… okay, I’ll tell you… we had 49 LOST swimmers out!!! Incredible.
Doesn’t hurt that it was ideal conditions… 69F / 21C… flat as a pancake… and beautiful sunny day. Doesn’t get much better than that. We had about half a dozen LOST Sunrisers out there early, starting at 6 and or 7 am… special thanks to Bill and Jackie for kayaking with the gang, alway appreciated! They were coming in as we were going out, a few were doing doubles. Then we had a few stragglers coming in late that missed the picture, but when it was all said and done, we had 49 happy swimmers out, paddling around in one of the greatest swimming lakes in the world!
Seriously, I think Lake Ontario is so under utilized it is ridiculous… I know tons of open water swimmers around the world that would kill to have a body of water like this to swim in! We were telling old swim stories at coffee after… talking about how Steve got stung by a Portugese Man-o-War jellyfish in a race in South Beach last year… on his finger and how much it hurt. And the unbearable pain that Penny Paulfrey must have had when she was attempting her record breaking distance swim in Hawaii but had to be pulled because of the dozens of stings she endured. Then there are sharks, salt water, cold, currents, pollution, trash, crocodiles… and we have Lake O. Take my word for it… it’s a pretty amazing lake.
Add to that, the fact that we have a really nice bunch of people that have come together as a group and have a friendly, inclusive culture… and we can wander up the street to a nice little coffee shop and sit in the sun after… well, in my mind there isn’t a much better way to start the day.
If you made it out today… good work, what a great swim and one to remember. If you didn’t make it out today, well don’t take it for granted, there really are only a few left this season… (I have to bring it up… but remember February… it’s hard to believe it can be so nice here at this time of the year and suck so badly in the winter!)… so come on out for a swim and a coffee while the gettin’ is good! See you next week.
PS. It’s okay to start getting psyched up for the LOST Race (see the LOST Race tab for details)… only 21 more sleeps! (also, we can always use a few volunteers for the LOST Race, if you have family that is coming to watch anyway, just let me know and I’ll find a little job for them, nothing too onerous!)
Cheers,
Rob
Stop having so much fun without me please! At least I got to meet Mr. Scott today at Masters @ Summerville Pool. I told him how I was hooked on the open water. Then, he astonsihed me with his incredible Lake O. crossings in 1992 and 94 and records. Wow I’m very happy I went to the pool even though I can’t swim currently. Great sport, great people, great lifestyle choice!!! See you all next week.
Try not to get LOST on my wake. Real naked swimming rules. Ooops, I hope it is OK to say that:)
