A big weekend for swimming!!!

June 8, 2013, b… just not here.  Okay it was less than optimal water temp… again.  It did “warm up” from 48F to 52F… but yes, that’s not saying much!  Having said that, we did still get 16 hearty souls out for a little dip!  Good work all you tough guys and gals (special tip o’ the cap to Kat for her first LOST swim… naked, no less!).  We even had a bit of the ol’ “green” roll in, which I haven’t seen in a few years, but luck of the draw from the last storm… but that’s open water swimming! (and I’m sure it’ll be gone next week anyway!).

And it was a little dip.  We tried out Bill’s idea of swimming to a buoy and back (which worked out well), in fact I think we are going to do this throughout the season to keep things organized and safe… especially when it warms up and we get a few more people out!

Having said all that… it was a big weekend for swimming!  The Manhattan Island Marathon was this weekend (that Lisa and I have done a couple of years ago!)… and the “Swim Around Key West” (that 14

LOSTies did last year!)… heck, Alexei (who commutes between here and Fort McMurray, Alberta just to attend LOST!) even sent me a picture of the swimming his construction crew was doing in Fort McMurray while we were in Lake O!

A big congrats to LOSTie, William Leonard, who made the trip down from Ottawa to train with us for his MIMS race this year… looks like it paid off… he came 3rd!!!  (check out the results below… it was a crazy year… only 11 of the 39 finished, due to weather… but as I said… that’s open water swimming!)

Don’t worry though… it will warm up eventually!  I’m thinking we will likely be around 60F by this weekend… which is swimmable for a reasonable distance!

See you then!

Cheers,

Rob
