A new World Record for LOST Swimming... 32 swimmers... and it's still early in the season! woohoo! (click to enlarge)

We had 32 swimmers out for LOST swimming on Saturday… the most ever!!! (the previous record last year was 23… and that was in August!)  It was incredible, this thing is growing like crazy… it’s great!  Now you never know what you are going to get until you get there… but for those that showed up… well they got a treat!

Easy getting in today... warm and flat... nice...

We had water that was as flat as glass… you couldn’t find water flatter than that at your local YMCA!  Not much current either… but most importantly, what was the temperature… well this was the third weekend of LOST swimming… we had 44F (incredibly cold!)… 56F (cold but quite swimable in a wetsuit)… and this weekend… 65F / 18C!!!  It was awesome!!!  I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed to be caught in a wetsuit in water that warm, but I think I was caught as off-guard as everyone else was by the warm temp!  That is one crazy lake!

sweeeet...

Good to see so many new faces… and lots of vets too!  Keep it up everyone and see you next week!

Cheers,

Rob

I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!

  1. Hi everyone!

    How are you all??

It was such a pleasure to get out swimming with everyone. I enjoyed so much being with people who are dedicated to sport yet are relaxed and “normal” people as well!

Speaking of “normal” (haah), would anyone be interested in swimming an extra 30-45ish minutes this Saturday??
I’d love to, if you’re interested. Respond to this post, or email me at [email protected]

    Keep having fun!

    –Chris
