So Colleen Shields is attempting to swim across Lake O even as I write this. It appears that she left Niagara-on-the-Lake around 6:17 this morning… on her way to Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto. She’s covered 4k in the first hour, thanks to the nice push from the ol’ Niagara River! Small rollers, but it all looks good so far!
That is her goal, just to get across. However, there are a few other interesting things to note about her swim… in completing her swim, she would be the oldest person to ever have swum the Lake, at 60 years old. It would also be her 3rd successful Crossing… of the 53 people that have crossed Lake O, 8 people have done it twice… and the only one to have done it more than twice is Vicki Keith… who has crossed the Lake 6 times! This would have Colleen as the second most Crossings ever! And just to prove that it ain’t easy… I believe this will be her 7th attempt… and hopefully her 3rd success!
