Getting the running out of the way…

… so everyone is getting antsy to get out of pool… or off of the road… and into the Lake!  Still a bit nippy, but we’ll be there soon!  Open water and tri season are coming soon!!!

First pre-season LOST swim of 2010! May1, 56F
First pre-season LOST swim of 2010! May1, 56F... a classic from last year at Gulliver's!

Mike Marshall was in Gulliver’s Lake on the weekend for his first OWS of the season… chilly, but clear!  And full of wimpy scuba divers… in dry suits!  http://gulliverslake.com/

Toronto Marathon

Meanwhile, a bunch of the crowd are wrapping up marathon season.  Below are some interesting stats from the 2 races.  As you may know, the Toronto Marathon was just relocated from the fall marathon calendar to the spring marathon calendar this year… because it was too close to the Scotia Toronto Waterfront Marathon… but ironically, they put it on the same day as the Mississauga Marathon?!

Mississauga Marathon

So here’s a list of the people I recognized that did the Mississauga or Toronto Marathons this weekend (email me if I missed some names, which I’m sure I did!  I can still add them).

– Winning time = MM 2:27, TM 2:27

– Participants = MM 1093, TM 1296

– number of runners under 3 hours = MM 21, TM 20

Apparently 2 very comparable marathons… it’ll be interesting to see how they duke this one out!

Oh yeah… and being the good husband that I am… a special shout out to my wife, Joanne, who after doing Boston in a mildly disappointing 4:06, pulled off a PB and a BQ at Mississauga with a 3:53!

Results: Mississauga & Toronto Marathons, 2011

Cheers,

Rob

I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!
