Hi all,

So to add more safety to this year’s LOST Swimming on Saturdays I want to get one person doing a “check in/out” of swimmers and one person (or more) as a “kayaker” (I have a good stable kayak)… and I’m looking for volunteers!

The ideal candidates would be high school kids that want to earn some “community volunteer hours”, or lifeguards, or spouses, older children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends… are you starting to get the idea.

Swimming down the Hudson.

If they are comfortable kayaking, great… if not they can do “check in”… which is great too.  The person doesn’t need to commit do all Saturdays, in fact I’d like to get a bunch of people so that we can have some alternates.  But if they can be fairly regular, that would, of course, make things a little easier.

Let me know if you know anyone… put the word in the street!

PS.  I’m also going to be looking for a few more kayakers and land crew, to act as “spotters” along the course of the LOST Race and 10k Nat’l Champs on Aug 11… so keep that in mind when you are thinking about volunteers!

If you are interested… please respond to the “LOST Volunteer Coordinator”… my daughter, Jillian!… at [email protected]

Peter, Brett and the SASMCKSR groupies!

Thanks.

Cheers,

Rob

I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!
