… just a quick reminder… the 4th Annual LOST Race is in 12 days!!!

The LOST Race 2010!

Michelle actually did the LOST Race route this morning (a dozen of us actually got in a nice long weekend swim today!), just to get the distance down… the same as Victor and Carl did last year, not a bad plan.  (PS. she did it in 1:09… with a current against her… not too shabby!)

So take a look at the LOST Race package, if you are registered for LOST Swimming already, then you are registered for the LOST Race as well… but you definitely need to get there at least an hour EARLY for body marking, check in, etc.  And because we are hoping/expecting a nice big turn out… I’m thinking about 100 people!  Last year’s 64 swimmers was the largest race ever held in Lake Ontario… and I hope we can set a new record this year!!!

On top of which, we should have a new celebrity joining us… Melanie Price… because she will have swum across Lake O just the 2 days prior… Aug 11-12… and the race is Saturday, Aug 13.

As a final inducement, we will also be having several raffles and door prizes… including giving away 3 brand new Xterra wetsuits!!!  Ya gotta like that!

The first LOST Race... 8 swimmers, then 39, then 64... and this year who knows?!

PS.  Hope to see you out next weekend… but I’ll cut you some slack if you are doing the Welland Canal Race… 3k, 5k or even the 10k… a great race too, so check it out!

Cheers,

Rob

I founded LOST Swimming because I like open water swimming and would like to see it grow and thrive in Lake Ontario. I started as a competitive swimmer as a kid and ended up getting as far as a silver medal at Nationals and going to the Olympic Trials in 1988. But I retired after that, I was sick of swimming. So I got into running marathons and have run over 35 to date, as well as a few ultra marathons, including the Marathon des Sables (7 day, ultra across the Sahara Desert). I also kind of fell into triathlons and have done a handful of Ironman tri's too. This gradually got me back in the water and in 2006 I took the plunge and attempted swimming the English Channel. I didn't quite make it across, but the circle was now complete and after 17 years I was a swimmer again! Although I still do plenty of pool swimming, I now much prefer open water swimming and like to say that open water swimming is to pool swimming, what trail running is to treadmill running! As a result I hope to encourage more people to join me for a dip in Lake Ontario as often as we can!
